Cris Abalos was stunned and shook his head in disbelief, for he was check mated and lost his final game againts Inter-Pozorrubio Non Master Chess Tournament Eventual Champion Narciso Mapanao.

Brutus, nickname of Mr. Mapanao, accumulated 6 points on 5 wins and 2 draws in seven rounds edging Reynaldo Ayson via higher tie-break points.  Both players ended tied for first place with 6 points a piece.

The surprize package however is Vincent Gabrielle Salcedo, only 12 years old, who beat former Champion Ernesto Martinez and bagging the 3rd Place Plum and the Top Kiddie Award. Rounding up the top 5 winners are: Ret. Gen. Oscar Mariñas – 4th Place, and Gansib Apilada – 5th Place.  All winners receive cash prize and trophy.

This years’ event is supported by Ex. Mun. Councilor Ernesto Go, Mun. Coun. Dennis Uy, M/Coun. Gloria Salcedo, Ms. Susan Mariñas, Ret. Gen. Oscar Mariñas, Eng’r. Gin Quesada, M/Coun. Sally Aldana, Mr. Romeo Pondivida and Mr. Glen Villamin.  The tournament is organized under the direction of Eng’r. Ernesto Salcedo, Current Executive Chairman of Pozorrubio Chess Club.

Ernesto Salcedo – Executive Chairman, Romeo Pondivida – President, Rogelio De Guzman – Vice President, Ernesto Martinez – Secretary, Reynaldo Ayson – Treasurer, Huberto De Vera – Auditor, Henry Coquia – Auditor and Narciso Mapanao – Property Costudian.  The Chess Club is Formally created on January 14, 2005.
