Storm slams Pangasinan!
Tropical storm Cosme (international name: Halong) of Saturday May 17 leaves a death toll of 44 with 24 others injured and one missing, mostly from the hardest-hit province of Pangasinan.
In an official report released yesterday, Thursday May 22, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) states 31 of the casualties were from Pangasinan, eight from La Union, four from Zambales and one from Benguet. Most of the victims died or were injured from injuries caused by falling debris or from flying galvanized iron sheets.
Pangasinan and the cities of Dagupan, Alaminos and Urdaneta remain under a state of calamity as of today Friday May 23.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,055 families or 10, 356 persons from the 34 barangays of Pozorrubio were repotedly affected by storm Cosme with some 330 houses totally blown down and 1,728 partially.
A consolidated partial report show that Pozorrubio incurred P 27, 120, 000.00 on infrastructure damages. Partial listing of agricultural damages was pegged at P3,178,700.00 covering 50 hectares of palay, 75 hectares of corn, 3500 mango trees, 10,000- of bananas, 3200 papayas and other vegetable crops.
Electricity in Pozorrubio have been cut off since the storm with only partial restoration of power in only a few less damaged areas.
